Quick Summer Cleaning

Anyone else see the sunshine and feel the call of the warm yellow glow and large doses of vitamin D calling you outside? When it gets sunny we just want to be outside with a cold drink and a lounge chair or pool float. If only the house would clean itself to allow us to do so.

Sadly, summer can still be busy in our homes, just a different kind of busy. With vacations, sports camps and tournaments, and the kids being home with friends over; the house doesn’t slow down with day to day chaos. Easy Microfiber Upholstery Cleanup

Microfiber can easily show stains. Give your microfiber upholstery an easy and quick spot clean with rubbing alcohol. Pour some in a spray bottle and lightly spray directly on the stain then blot clean with a cloth. The alcohol evaporates quickly so it doesn’t leave behind wet marks. For tougher stains you can use a 2 to 1 solution of hydrogen peroxide and hand dish washing soap. Test it on an unseen area first if you have never used hydrogen peroxide on the fabric before.

Make Taking Out the Trash More Pleasant

Sprinkle some baking soda in the bottom of the trash can to help with yucky odors. You can also wad up some old newspaper and put it in the bottom of a brand new trash bag to absorb odors and help prevent leaks.

Get Blinds Clean in a Snap

Clean up blinds easily by placing an old sock on your hand. Dip the sock in a cleaning solution of 50/50 white vinegar and water. Simply wipe down each blind and you can use the other sock in the pair to dry.

Keep a High Traffic Bathroom Smelling Fresh

More people in the house means more bathroom use and potential for funky smells to form pretty quickly. Keep things fresh with the simple addition of a few drops of essential oil to the cardboard roll in the toilet paper before placing it on the holder. Every time someone uses the toilet paper it will release the fresh scent.

Remove Water Rings From the Furniture

More kids means more glasses on the furniture with no coasters. Remove those water rings by aiming a blow dryer at it until it disappears. Follow up with a dab of olive oil to condition the wood.
