Ahilya Fort, situated on the edge of a cliff in Maheshwar, is an attractive site in Maheshwar and one of the major forts of the state. This fort is 250 years old and is also known as Holkar Fort. The fort is famous for its historical importance as the fort was the capital of the Maratha queen Ahilyabai Holkar between 1766 and 1795. From the top of Ahilya Fort, wonderful views of the entire Maheshwar city and ghats can be seen, which has become a center of attraction for tourists.
