RealSelf Article on Dr. McClure

In 2014, RealSelf.com interviewed Dr. McClure on his surgical missions where he volunteers to help children all over the world. RealSelf.com is a plastic surgery review and database.

Throughout the article, plastic surgeon Dr. McClure explained his inspiration for going on medical trips. He states that plastic surgery drew him in during his studies because he wanted to help patients that needed reconstructive surgery – in particular, children born with deformities or burn victims. He realized that these reconstructive operations could change a child’s life. Dr. McClure experienced this when he went on a trip to Mexico and witnessed a fellow perform cleft lip repair on a child.

Dr. McClure had the chance to live abroad and witness suffering that he could perhaps help alleviate. After graduating from Stanford’s plastic surgery residency, he decided to establish a practice where he could devote 6-8 weeks of the year to mission work abroad as well as volunteer at home. Not what you expect of a plastic surgeon perhaps?

He also states that it is the responsibility of those with a lot to give a lot. He hopes that young plastic surgeons will understand their obligation to the world. And he hopes that his practice in Napa will aid the funding of his mission trips. Organizations such as ReSurge International, Plasticos Foundation, Rotaplast, and more could all use donations.
