EIGHT BASIC ASPECTS OF PERSONALITY

A personality of all the people in this universe varies as they do not have the same thinking or are brought up in the same way.

In this regard, there are eight aspects related to personality that are to be discussed here.

Psychoanalytic:
In this aspect deals with the personality that is developed amount individual influenced by their unconscious mind. The theory related to this aspect is developed by Freud who informs that the three pieces of unconscious mind are id, ego, and superego. The Id is the unconscious pleasure part which is hidden in our unconscious mind relating the desires and wants they we possess. The superego exists in the unconscious and conscious mind which consists of the judgment a person has that stops them to perform foolish or playful actions. The ego involves the reality and exists in the conscious mind that we see which is made by combining Id and superego. In this area, the psychosexual development stages are involved in a person that is identified by Freud by watching children. Freud realized that each person has to go through various stages in their entire life and in each stage a certain part of the body is involved to offer them pleasure.

  • Oral: This stage extends from 0 to 18 months and has the focus on a mouth that is related to tasting and chewing.
  • Anal: This stage involves in a person from 18 months to 3 years where the focus in on the bowel movement.
  • Phallic: It extends from 3 to 6 years during which the children are able to know the difference between sexes and what the opposite sex looks like.
  • Latency: This extends from 6 to 12 years of age and the individuals in this stage often remain calm and are highly observant in nature as they learn from their observation regarding the way to live life.
  • Genital: This phase starts from 12 to adulthood where the adult sexual features are developed. The individuals become focused on building a relationship and initiates to have sexual desires.

Neo-Analytic:
The Ego or Neo-Analytic aspect of personality is studied by Jung who is the friend of Freud. Jung as well as Freud by watching the dreams of the individuals have developed archetypes for analyzing the dreams. The archetypes developed are regarded as the universal symbol for delivering explanation regarding emotions. Jung has informed that there are three parts of psychology which include:
Conscious Ego: The awareness the person has and others have while making individual decisions.
Personal Unconscious: The part regarding which the person is unaware.
Collective unconscious: The shared memories of each mankind.

Biological:
The biological aspect of the personality is the one with which the person is born and is passed on from generation. Many psychologists have various perceptions regarding this aspect of personality from time to time. Many have seen to have believed in nativism while others believe in natural selection some believed in behavioral genomics and others. The four key aspects of the biological temperament often looked among individuals are as follows:
Activity: Will the individuals be going to take actions when needed or they wish to?
Emotionality: Will emotions are going to influence them in their way?
Sociability: Are they easy and friendly enough to go with?
Aggression: Do their impulse has an impact on their actions?

Cognitive:
In this aspect of personality, people are considered as processors of information. Thus, it informs that changes in people can be seen if they think that they wish to change. The key concepts related to it are scientific methods, decision-making, perception, and others. A lot of studies is required understanding the human thought. One of the key positive views related to the approach is that it is used for capturing the human though according to their nature. The limitation of this approach is it does not consider unconscious and emotions that influence the personality of an individual.

Behaviorist
The one with the behaviorist aspect of personality is regarded to be cruel and heartless in nature. The key vision of utopia according to them is reinforcing and conditioning certain behavioral aspects of the person which are beneficial to society. They are seen to normally modify and change a person so as to offer benefit to the person around them. The strength of the individuals in this aspect of personality is that they usually force scientific analysis of the things that shape their personality. The limitation related to the aspect is that they in some cases dehumanize unique potentials of the persons by comparing them with others. This is so much absurd that they can compare a human with a cat or other animals. They are also seen to show avoiding considering advances in social or cognitive psychology.

Traits
The traits are referred to the skills, motives and in some case the free will of individuals. The people in this area are categorized by their focus and actions. There are different personality tests which can be used and in some of the tests, there are 16 personality factors such as tense, suspicious, emotionally unstable and others. One of the strong points related to a trait is that it includes good examination techniques for capturing the basic dimensions of the personality. The limitation is that individuals are labeled based on the test regarding their personality rather than focusing on what is their actual personality among people.

Humanistic
The humanistic are open-minded and are free as well as they are seen to believe in spiritual fulfillment for a free-willed person. They are seen to put emphasis on the appreciation and self-fulfillment of the spirit of all people. The successful and healthy individuals are often studies so that others follow the same footsteps to become like them. In this aspect, each of the individuals is considered different as well as special in their own way. The techniques used to understand this aspect of personality include creativity, self-exploration, interview, and others. The psychologists who support this aspect of personality are seen to be encouraging in making individuals develop self-knowledge through their everyday experiences.

Interactionist
The interactionist always views humans as a never-ending film formed between the environment and themselves. They put emphasis on the outside influences on individuals and study each one’s personality over time and not within one day. According to them, each of the individuals is different in personality in different situations and they identify the best aspects of the new approaches. The Interactionist may look away from the influences made by biological possibilities. The methods most often used by them are classifying situations, observation, longitudinal study, projective tests, a biographical study, and others.
